Teen Vogue Fashion U Experience

I had such an amazing experience at Teen Vogue Fashion U in New York City!  I met so many great people and learned so much.

It was really amazing to be in the same room as the Teen Vogue editors.  I even got to briefly meet Amy Astley after the panel.

Joseph Altuzarra is such an amazing designer and it was great to hear him speak.  He was interviewed by Teen Vogue's Fashion Director, Gloria Baume.  When asked about the woman he designs for, he said she was French, seductive, and confident.  He also said that when designing you have to be "steadfast in your vision... It's easy to be swayed."  He also said, "You are designing for one specific customer.  You can't design everything for everyone."  If you do this, you "lose the purpose of your brand."

Thakoon is one of my favorite designers.  Before he was a designer, he worked as a writer for Harper's Bazaar.  He quit his job there to design.  Soon after, Vogue had heard about his designs and wanted to shoot his clothing for a story.  The rest is history.  When asked if he had a muse, he responded, "When I'm thinking of a muse, I can feel her energy.  I want to keep her a mystery."

I was one of the lucky few Fashion U students that got to tour the Sperry showroom.  We got to see all of the footwear for Spring / Summer 2014.  I had never been to a showroom before so it was great to see what it looked like.

Andrew Bevan interviewed Alexa Chung.  She was absolutely hilarious!  After swearing, she said to Andrew, "Does Wintour drop this many F-Bombs?"  She said her favorite piece of clothing is her pair of denim hot pants.  A student asked if there was anything in her career that she hasn't done yet and she jokingly responded with "cocaine."

We also got a tour of the Teen Vogue offices!

The fashion closet!

I felt like I was dreaming.  So many shoes and accessories!

We also heard from Emily Weiss from the site Into the Gloss and the founders of The Coveteur.  I was really excited to hear from them because I am an avid reader of The Coveteur.

Our last speaker was Phyllis Posnick, a fashion editor at Vogue.  She spoke about how she creates her iconic images for Vogue.

Overall, this was one of the best experiences of my life.  I'm so happy I was a part of Teen Vogue Fashion U Class of 2013!
